Hosting a carnival brings in traffic and links.The people featured in the carnival will usually link back to show their appreciation and then you end up getting more traffic from that as their readers come over to check you out. I have hosted a few carnivals and I also submitted some of my articles for carnivals hosted elsewhere.

Don’t neglect normal websites when trying to get links. Especially ones that deal in you niche market.
How to get some links? Do an interview of a famous blogger. Post this on your blog and let them know about it, and often they will automatically give you not only some link love, but probably mention you in one of their posts that EVERYONE reads! I interviewed a famous blogger and will be posting it very, very soon!

Comment, comment, comment. People who comment a lot on many sites are usually seen as loyal readers. Most of the times bloggers would even reward them with something like a free link back to their site or something. Keeping a good relationship with others on the blogosphere helps you get more love and even more link love.
