There have been many many complaints about YPN! (Yahoo Publisher Network) and how slow they have been to catch up to Google Adsense and to open to the world. Up till now YPN has been primarily for US websites and this has frustrated the millions elsewhere that would like to give YPN a shot.
I have been one of the privileged ones to use YPN! and have done very well with them. They have been very slow to do anything different or have graphic ads etc. They have lagged behind Adsense and to the normal user have not made any strides to keep up with Adsense.
Today Yahoo! is making changes.
Yahoo! said that longtime chief sales officer Wenda Harris Millard is resigning and her display ad division is being merged with the company’s Web search ad unit. The move, months in the planning, follows Yahoo!’s warning last week that second-quarter revenues would be hurt by lower-than-expected display ad sales. (Reuters) It was the first organizational change since Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang replaced Terry Semel as CEO last week as shareholders pressed for better performance. Yahoo! is looking to strengthen its ad offerings on secondary Web sites and alongside e-mails, said ThinkEquity Partners analyst Steward Barry. (The New York Times, free registration required)
With this bloggers like me are hoping to see some quick changes. We want to see Yahoo! not only catch Adsense but beat them. We want YPN! to be a viable competitor. Like Pepsi and Coke have been for years is what we expect out of YPN! and Adsense.
I am excited about the news today and hope that it means a better advertising company for Yahoo!
