Will the new design of Problogger Change Blogging?

I have been asked if I think that Darren Rowse and ProbloggerDarren Rowse’s new design of Problogger.net will change blogging in any way? I think it will have an impact just like his old site made to the blogging industry.

Most bloggers today weren’t blogging when Darren really got going. Problogger made changes to the blogging world. As you know Darren is a friend of mine through his Livingroom blog. I have been a pastor and we were talking way back in 2001- 2002 about house churches. So I have followed him quite closely. When Problogger began growing you saw blogging change to more of a commercialized industry. It was going to happen and who is really to say if problogger had a part of this or not, but I feel that it had at least a minor role in helping people see that money can be made in blogging. Not only money but lot’s of it.

I believe that the new design of problogger will have blogs change more into portals. The new problogger is doing just that and I believe this will increase Darren’s earnings and thus more people will also use this example that is being set.

The blog isn’t on the front page and now more pages will be clicked meaning more ad revenue. So the main impact I see of the new design is more portal or front pages being used for blogs. I am now thinking of doing this for moremerchant.com as well.

The new site looks great, will take some time getting used to, but will serve Darren well. the new logo is very strong and eye catching.

So these are the changes I think we will see to the blogging community. Nothing huge like Darren accomplished with problogger as that impact was quite large, but it will make changes. What do you see coming from the new site of problogger? Do you plan on making any changes to your site(s)?

  1. Dave says:

I’m a big fan of the new design. The “best of” section is right in the middle, and highlighted nicely. He’s been blogging long enough to accumulate some down right awesome content in that section.

  2. The design really takes advantage of the massive archives Darren has built up.

I think that the normal blog layout works well for newer blogs, with less content. (Darren’s layout would look a little empty)

For that reason, I think that this style is more of a blog redesign, then a first design, which could hold up its popularity a bit.
