Ready to buy a car? Want to get rid of your old one? Are you afraid of car dealerships? Well you can rest assured knowing tha there are 10 mistakes most commonly made at car
dealerships. We will give them to you and most likely save you thousands and hassles when buying a car.
Here are the top 10 Mistakes When Buying a Car:
1. Ignoring your needs. Know what you want, and don’t sacrifice your needs.
2. Showing your hand. Buying a car is business, and car dealers are the best at it. So, don’t act overly excited, and don’t let them know your plans and research until it helps you.
3. Bad research and no research. Always research online. The internet has made it easy for you the customer to be educated.
4. Picking the most conveniently located dealership. Drive around and check multiple dealers.
5. Going by payment rather than price. NEVER do this. Always negotiate price, and let YOUR bank tell you the payment. All dealers are not the same. Ask your friends for the best car dealerships. Some deal differently, some offer better maintenece. Find one that has the best reputation.
6. Prematurely talking trade-in. Dealers will try to confuse all buyers with throwing two cars. The one you are buying and the one you are selling. Dealers have sophisticated systems and you don’t. Talk one car at a time. Negotiate for the car you are buying, and then move on to the car you are selling.
7. Not shopping interest rates. Check with your local bank and credit union for great rates. Shop around and ask banks to compete. They will beat other bank rates.
8. One-stop shopping at the dealership. See mistake #5. Always check 3 or more dealerships plus online.
9. Going it alone when you can use a helping hand. Get someone to help you. Maybe a past car dealer. Ask for help and take your time. Also you can buy cars through Costco at preset prices, also AAA has a special program for members. This makes shopping for cars easy.
10. Thinking it’s over before it’s over. This is a huge trap people fall into. They think it is over and they just have to sign paper in the business manager’s office. This is where negotiating starts often times. They will want to sell you warranties and undercoat protection as well as scotchguard. They will often times pull some firty tricks. They may go as dishonest to saying your bank will raise your interest rates if you don’t get the warranty or the undercoat. Don’t fall for it. This is another reason it is best to have your own financing already approved. Don’t give in to these things in the business office and if the deal changes walk out.
As a past car salesman, I can tell you these mistakes are made often, and make customers that are not extremely happy with their major purchase. When buying a car, take your time. Plan the purchase out as this is a HUGE purchase. Figure out what you want, and research it online. Check the KBB.com for prices. Check multiple car lots and never and we mean NEVER negotiate on the monthly car payment. Negotiate on the total price of the car.
