Stumble and Firefox … tired of resizing windows? Here is the Fix
By MoreMerchant on Dec 17, 2007 in Blogging, Featured, Firefox, Tools, stumble
If you Stumble a lot like I do you are probably really tired of all the sites that resize the window. It was driving my freaking crazy until I took about 5 minutes into searching for the answer.
So all you Firefox Stumblers here is the quick fix.
![]()
1. Under options on the Toolbar, select the Content Tab.
2. Click the advanced button next to Enable Javascript in the top box.
3. Uncheck the ‘Move or resize existing windows’ box.
There you have it. now your windows won’t automatically resize and drive you to the brink of slitting your wrists. With this Firefox / Stumble request I hope to save so many people from ending it all.

THANK GOD! I even bought the latest OSX to get rid of the shrink problem. Cost $130 bucks. Didn’t work. Now if I could figure out how to make MAC’s mail program work my life would be nearly bearable.

There are no options in my toolbar so I can’t find a content tab - I am using Firefox 2

Goto Tools, then Options.

From the comments I see that your post was very helpful to us stumble upon users. I sure wish I could read it, black and dark gray on black, I just gave up.

Great tip, but I’d suggest stumblers use the NoScript addon for Firefox. It’s pretty dangerous what a site could do to your machine running javascript unchecked. If it can resize your window, imagine what else could be done.

Why would anyone not have this disabled in the first place, StumbleUpon or not?
It’s in the regular options menu, not somewhere tucked away or only accessible through the address bar.

Hmmm never have that problem and I stumble all the time. Maybe it is because I am running Firefox on a Mac and its version is programmed to prevent that.

Had everything in that box unchecked since I started using FireFox. I can’t stand people that have websites that resize your windows. Great tip!

just get the noscript plugin and you can allow/disallow individual sites that are allowed to run Javascript.
It’s better than having to tweak the global settings all the time.

People, don’t you ever take a look at the options if there would be anything useful in there? Rule #1: If you think something is annoying, chances are someone else thought that too and fixed it.
MoreMerchant | Dec 24, 2007 | Reply
Well looking at options or not, I am glad we could provide something that people needed.

Thanks! Now, how do I keep all the graphics in FF2 from automatically enlarging about 25% so that they cover the adjoining text???

and I cannot find that option either
but I guess it don’t matter

Thanks for the tip. You’re right, that had been annoying me. For future reference, for people using Firefox on Linux, the “options” dialog is Edit->Preferences.

Long ago, I disabled most of the javascript functions that affect browser windows. I don’t like it when some idiot web designer tries messing with MY browser window.
CindyS | Feb 25, 2008 | Reply
I wonder if this will keep it from just spontaneously closing for no apparent reason. Or if anyone else has this problem.
