I find for me feedburner’s subscribe via email RSS works great. My blog’s topic is about StarCraft 2, and most gamers still aren’t really used to the whole reading articles in RSS. They however are accustomed to using forums and getting emails when they get a private message or when someone responds to their trend. So email is more natural to my core audience.

I agree with the previous Jason that you have to make it easy, but I believe the key to RSS subscriptions, like the key to a successful blog, is quality content provided consistently. While someone may stop by once or twice, if you get them (via StumbleUpon, Digg or other source) more than that, they’ll subscribe because they know you’re providing consistent interest.

Make it as easy for people as possible. I also include some information on what RSS is and how to subscribe in my about page.

I will also include a link from time to time at the end of my posts asking readers to subscribe so they don’t miss a single article.
