Google Hates Me Because I Own a Blogging Network

I ADMIT IT! I am a Google criminal evidently. You see, I am the owner of a Blogging Network. Yes, I admit it. This is evidently why Google hit me on many of my other sites in the most recent pagerank update.

There is no other rhyme or reason to think that Google hates me. I sell some links, but I am a company and as such I must make money. Problogger and B5Media (Darren Rowse and Jeremy Wright) sells links they are called ads. Big deal. I have sold a few (More Merchant sells a handful of links that are directly related to this site). Yet, the sites that were punished were sites using YPN and even on a couple Google Adsense.

Make sense? Well why were some of the B5Media sites hit with a pagerank slam, and then basically given it back and some of them got a higher pagerank (Copyblogger for example). I was hit and hit hard because I am a SMALL blogging network.

Google says they were trying to punish text link sellers yet, my sites were hit and the only logical reason was due to the fact that I run a blogging network.

Where is a lawyer when I need one? The monopoly called Google is striking at small businesses everywhere. They help large companies like B5Media and the others yet my small 15 or so blogs were attacked with these malicious and monopoly style practices.

Google, you should be ashamed. I have made you a lot of money, yet you hate me. You hate me because I link to my own quality based sites. Why? Why do you hate me? Come on Matt Cutts help me out?

Download the Webmaster Console. Once you’re no longer selling links, apply for reconsideration through the WMC. That’s all we did, nothing to do with being a “big” network (except that we were specifically targetted!).

All the best with your venture :)

First, Thank you Jeremy Wright for stopping by More Merchant and taking the time to write a comment.

Second, I don’t want you to see this post as anything against B5Media or any of the sites. I do find it interesting that B5Media sites got their rank back so quickly, yet on many of my sites that have NEVER sold links they were hit all the way down to 1, and have not received any attention from Google. On the Google Webmaster Tools they want me to admit that I have violated terms. I have not and thus can’t check the box.

Jeremy, I love B5Media (shoot I even tried to be a writer at one time) and your network of great blogs. I believe most of your sites should be ranked very high. I consider Darren Rowse a friend and have since 2001 or so.

I do think that Google is hurting the internet like no one has done before. Attacking the small people is wrong and we can’t get Google to notice like B5Media.

Thank you and I hope to hear from you again soon.

Don’t worry, I didn’t think it was an attack. And, to be honest, we were selling links. And Google had said they’d do this for awhile. If all they’d done was smack sites that had sold links, I’d have no complaints.

But they also smacked a LOT of sites that weren’t selling links, but just had blogrolls. And sites that didn’ even have that. Or just sites that linked to us.

It’s a royal clusterf*ck, and Google deserves the lambasting they’ve received.

Thanks again for your kind words, and keep up the great work. It isn’t easy to build a decent network (if anyone knows how hard it is, it’s me), but keep up the great work. It’s totally worth it in the end :)
