Am I a SPAMMER?

To start this off, I hate spam, I hate spam sites. I hate that the internet is getting filled with sites that do nothing but have ads. I fight for a better internet. I NEED YOUR HELP.Am I a spammer? I fight against click fraud.

I have this site that I really enjoy on the net. Well I used to enjoy it. I made an excellent comment that actually supported the bog’s position but added to the conversation on a good post that they had up.
Problem Solved read comments.
They were saying that the news said more Americans were heading to Canada than ever before. But in reality more Canadians are moving to America than Americans moving to Canada. Make sense? Of course.

Here is a link to this article. I know I will hear it from you guys about not linking it because that helps. Oh well. He may delete my links and call me a spammer but there is the link anyway.

So I commented this:

I just moved back from Canada to the US. Canada was good. I went there due to my job. It is good to be back in the USA. I DO NOT SPAM! PERIOD.

He writes back:

Your comment was fine and it was left alone. The link, however, led
back to a spam blog.

I don’t know what else to tell you Jake AKA JT AKA “More Merchant” AKA
“Save Money”. If you don’t want to be tarred with the spammer label,
then stop acting like one.

You’re a spammer and the insult here is all yours.

Also there are only 25 - 30 million Canadians. if you take the percentages of people moving to the other country it is a much larger number of Canadians moving to the US since there are over 300 million Americans.

I could have gone into more details but I am not the author of the post I just gave him a great idea for a more in depth point on his position.

Now don’t forget this is a blog that I really like to read.

Then I get an email:

On 8/1/07, likwidshoe wrote:

Dear Mr. “More Merchant”,

Your spam was denied.

It’s time to pick greener pastures. You’re just wasting your time
trying to spam the Sayanythingblog.com domain.

Sincerely,
-likwidshoe
Sayanythingblog.com webmaster

Well I thought I did say anything on this sayanythingblog, but you can say anything I suppose if you are a friend. Now this guy has a great blog and a decent following. Much larger than this site that I don’t put very much time into. He can trash me I am sure. But, do you get the irony in this? He is saying to say anything, so I actually suppport him and he says that moremerchant.com is a site that spams.

I figure this is an accident and email him back. Probably an auto setting on his blog, no biggie. Normally I would ignore the email, but this is a site that I enjoy.

So I write back.

Why did you call me a spammer. My comment is most definitely not spam.

Then you change my name to spammer and take away my link.

What an insult this email is.

Jake

I didn’t harass him or talk trash. I asked a legitimate question. I hate spamming. I hate cheating. I campaign against Click fraud and a cleaner internet.
To my surprise I get an email back this morning from the ungrateful comment getter:

Your comment was fine and it was left alone. The link, however, led
back to a spam blog.

I responded and do not have a response back yet nor do I expect one. Here is my message back:

How am I a spammer? I hate spam. Giving away things on my site is not spam.
Webmd.com about 7 years back sent me a pair of running shoes. Are they a spammer? I don’t think they are from what I know.

Darren Rowse gave away some stuff on problogger.net. Is he a spammer? I don’t think so. My site’s domain is MoreMerchant.com and my name is Save more money and Make more money.

That is not spam either. So you have lost a regular viewer. Also read my comment, nothing but a thought out comment that actually helped your shallow post. I added support to your argument.

How is that spam.

All I can say is if I am a spammer, then you are an ass. The insult is all yours.

The last 2 lines I got a little heated and my normal self stays pretty calm with others. Now I talk allot about bloggers taking part on other people’s sites. It makes for a better internet and it makes bloggers better. It helps us out if we all comment. I tell you this over and over again. IF we are to maintain a good community we must blog on other sites.

Yet I am the one that gets attacked by a site that saystosayanything! IRONY! Talk to me.

Hey Darren Rowse and others, what do you think? Did I spam by putting my name on the blog as Save More? This is my name’s title. My domain name is moremerchant.com, my name is Save more Money and Make more Money with various short terms.

I hope we didn’t lose you. Let me explain what happened (was going to just e-mail this, but I’ll post it here).

We’ve been getting hit by shady services such as this. Sometimes the comments are short (”Great post”) and other times they are thoughtful comments such as the one you left (so that they have less of a chance of getting erased). The purpose is the same though: to spam. Your name and link looked to be one of the spam comments from one of the pay-for-comments services.

I hope you understand. You were a victim of friendly fire and nothing more. I’ll take off the site block and restore your name and link.

For the record - you do have spammy looking names. With the aforementioned comment spam services taking off in the blog world, you can expect that other blogs will start treating your name as if it were spam.

Hope to see you back at site Jake. No hard feelings please.

likwidshoe - Thank you. I appreciate it and will continue reading your site. I will also comment from time to time.

My site is legitimate and once again we see how spammers are like terrorists. They ruin our way of life.

I’m late to the game here and it looks like everything has already been ironed out.

At first I was thinking that they must have thought the site was spam due to the free giveaway contest. There are so many big-name blogs doing the same thing that there is no way you can classify someone as spam for that.

Reading what likwidshoe mentioned, I guess I can see how some site owners might lump different comments into spam due to targeted keywords in the name field for the comment. IMO, that is good SEO practice on the part of the person leaving the comment although I know I have questioned a few like that on my own sites.

Glad to hear that things were resolved though!

Thanks Derek, your sites are looking great by the way.

If you have not visited Derek’s sites I strongly recommend it. He always has fantastic advice.
