5 Tips to Make Firefox Faster

Firefox-Maxthon-IEDo you still use Internet Explorer? I am sorry if you do. You have to switch to something else. Anything else! I used to use Maxthon but switched over to Firefox quite a while ago. I really liked Maxthon but at the time I made the switch to Firefox I was sure happy that I did.

I made some changed to my Firefox the other day and it really helped.

Speed up Firefox. If you have a broadband connection, you can speed up your page loads. This allows Firefox to load multiple things on a page instead of one at a time. By default, it’s optimized for dialup connections (why??). Here is what you need to do:

1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Type “network.http” in the filter field, and change the following settings (double-click on them to change them):
2. Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
3. Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
4. Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at one time. Originally I tried 100 here and it didn’t seem to help. When I went with 30 I noticed an improvement. ** Update 8 is actually recommended by Firefox **
5. Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

  1. I’ve seen this tip before but you convinced me to give it a shot. We’ll see how she runs in a few days. Thanks.

  2. This is something i got to try. Thanks for these wonderful steps.

  3. Love it! Thanks for those. I’d forgotten since re-installing Firefox that I had used some adaptations to make it faster :) Thanks for reminding me and being up there on Stumble :D

This isn’t really “5 Tips to Make Firefox Faster”…bit of a misleading title there.

It’s more like “Make Firefox faster in 5 Steps”.

    Interesting read though, stumbled. :D

  5. Nice article – It really worked and i can feel some difference in my Firefox

FasterFox seems to do all of these changes, and probably more for you. It’s an addon download. It just doesn’t set the “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” so high. I’ve seen others saying only to set to 10, so not sure what 30 will do, will try it out.

  7. douglas kimsey says:

I can not even make Firefox open up. All of the browers will open, but firefox.

  8. TechDune says:

Though, i knew some i need to try the rest :)

Jackson you are correct. I changed it on a few things after I posted it here. I suppose I could still change the title but haven’t dont it yet.

None of these steps are new as I have learned them from others. I have done it on previous versions of Firefox and forgot to do it this time. So when I did and changed it from 100 to 30 as I said above I was really impressed.

Impressed enough to post about it! Thanks everyone for stumbling and digging it.

  10. If this actually does work, I often wonder why doesn’t firefox install itself with these options already enabled?
