5 Tips to Make Firefox Faster
Filed under: Blog Advertising, Blogging, Build Your Website, Featured, Firefox, Misc
Do you still use Internet Explorer? I am sorry if you do. You have to switch to something else. Anything else! I used to use Maxthon but switched over to Firefox quite a while ago. I really liked Maxthon but at the time I made the switch to Firefox I was sure happy that I did.
I made some changed to my Firefox the other day and it really helped.
Speed up Firefox. If you have a broadband connection, you can speed up your page loads. This allows Firefox to load multiple things on a page instead of one at a time. By default, it’s optimized for dialup connections (why??). Here is what you need to do:
1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Type “network.http” in the filter field, and change the following settings (double-click on them to change them):
2. Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
3. Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
4. Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at one time. Originally I tried 100 here and it didn’t seem to help. When I went with 30 I noticed an improvement. ** Update 8 is actually recommended by Firefox **
5. Right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

Love it! Thanks for those. I’d forgotten since re-installing Firefox that I had used some adaptations to make it faster
Thanks for reminding me and being up there on Stumble
This isn’t really “5 Tips to Make Firefox Faster”…bit of a misleading title there.
It’s more like “Make Firefox faster in 5 Steps”.
Interesting read though, stumbled.
Nice article – It really worked and i can feel some difference in my Firefox
FasterFox seems to do all of these changes, and probably more for you. It’s an addon download. It just doesn’t set the “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” so high. I’ve seen others saying only to set to 10, so not sure what 30 will do, will try it out.
I can not even make Firefox open up. All of the browers will open, but firefox.
Though, i knew some i need to try the rest
Jackson you are correct. I changed it on a few things after I posted it here. I suppose I could still change the title but haven’t dont it yet.
None of these steps are new as I have learned them from others. I have done it on previous versions of Firefox and forgot to do it this time. So when I did and changed it from 100 to 30 as I said above I was really impressed.
Impressed enough to post about it! Thanks everyone for stumbling and digging it.
If this actually does work, I often wonder why doesn’t firefox install itself with these options already enabled?
Cool buddy thatkx. its nice of u.
[...] This seems to have really improved the speed at which I browse: Speed up Firefox. If you have a broadband connection, you can speed up your page loads. I’ve had FF set up like this for a while I’ve found if you start at around 14-15, then go up by one (for the pipelining max requests) ,and keep loading the same page you’ll get a more accurate number, but it does take time, so 30 is a good number.
And the fifth part I didn’t know that and that seemed to help even more. overall good job. You can also find out how to speed up Firefox just by searching for it on youtube, metacafe, yahoo answers, etc..
These are good tips indeed. They make the pages load WAY faster. However, is there a way to make stumble upon not show these same tips every five stumbles? (the only difference on a different blog?)

Changing network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to anything more then 8 won’t have an effect.
Thanks a lot for the tips. Unlike some other folks who are techno savvy, I am reading this for the first time and it helped.

Great tips… Thank you very much…
Great!! IE sucks indeed, but i thought that Firefox was slow too… but this really helps
They don’t include it because Dial-Up customers wouldn’t be able to use the browser(its kind of self explanatory).
Nice Tips…
Thanks
Nice guide and yes it does work! but no need to set pipelining max requests at more than 8 as it is capped!
What’ll happen if you set the pipeling max requests at 100?

putting 30 on the integer box means the browser will do 30 things at a time which it can over load the broadband thingy so a lower number like 5 or 8 is safer
Thanks for the post. I will try it!
