Saving money and getting rich seems to be one of the top questions that we receive via email at http://moremerchant.com/, which is a good question to ask. It is great knowing that people want to improve not live paycheck to paycheck, and to stop living in a world of more than we can afford. We need to save more, and saving more will release us from stress of not having enough to live on.

To change your life, is not easy. To gt rich is not easy and quick. To change all your habits from the thoughts that you deserve whatever it is you want, to the idea that you owe it to yourself to save more money is not easy to do. Here are a few simple steps to change your life forever, and to help you become rich!

Alright enough talk here are the 4 Steps to Get Rich.

1. Make a list of all your debts – How can you get rich if you do not even know what debt you owe. Make sure you know exactly what it is you owe, what the minimum monthly payments are, and what the interest rates are.

2. Know what it takes minimum to live on each month – Sound funny? I bet you do not know what it is you need each month to live on. Most people do not. Most people have heard the idea to make a list of anything and everything that you spend money on. Do not forget anything. If you get a Starbucks Macciato, you must write it down. If you buy a pack of gum at the gas station, write it down. At the end of a month calculate it up.

3. Make a budget off of what you spent. Your goal should be to spend less than the month before. Print this out and put it everywhere! I mean it! Print it up, put your budget on the refrigerator, put it on the mirror in your bathroom, and put it someplace else that you will see it everyday. This is an important step. Seeing is believing. Believe that you can cut more out of your budget and make it a game to see how much you can save from the month before.

4. Put it all together – Pay off your small debts from item # 1 above. Work from smallest to largest. Make the minimums on all of the debt except the smallest debt that you have. When that is paid off pour all the money plus the one from before into the next debt and work your way up. This will start piling up and before you know it, you will be working your way out of high interest debt.

Then keep living on your budget. If you need something new, save for it and always pay in cash. Close your credit cards, and stay out of debt. You are now on the road to financial freedom, the road to saving more, and getting rich.

You can get rich!

  1. Hi Jake,

I’ve done #2 before, I agree with your recommendation to do so….it really opens your eyes to how much you spend each day. Those coffees really add up!

This will also give you the incentive to pack your lunch when you see how much that fast food costs you in just one week. Why not tote a healthy lunch to work, instead of spending $$ on fast food each day? Not only will you save $$, but you’ll be eating healthier! ;)

  2. I love your step 1. It is so obvious and yet it’s probably the last thing people think of. I can’t wait to read your other posts.

  3. Some really good tips there. Everyone wants to get rich, but few want to sacrifice a few luxuries to actually get there. It’s a hard decision.

  4. Save Money - Jake Rinard says:

Few really do want to make the sacrifices to get ahead. We live in a world where everyone is owed success.

This of course is not true. We need to work for and sacrifice for everything we get.

  5. Dave says:

I’d be a rich man if I wasn’t a total sucker for the new car smell …. Good advice to be had here … thanks.
